One of the first issues I came across though was how big would the baby be when Halloween came around? I didn't want to make anything too big and I definitely didn't want to make anything too small. So, the first step in this project was figuring out a way to make sure that I can change or adjust the costume once Halloween came around.
I started with the tail. I figured I would make a belt that wrapped around the baby's belly and snapped or buttoned at the end. It took me awhile to figure out how to make sure this would work but then I realized I could easily leave extra yarn over to change the size of the belt when it was closer to Halloween time. So, I guess, the above picture is a bit deceiving. the tail isn't actually done yet and won't be until closer to Halloween :) (For those of you who love baby pictures, don't worry, I will take plenty of Julian modeling my first shot at a baby Halloween costume haha).
Next, I focused on a hat but again the size dilemma came up...what if I made the hat too small? What if I made it to big? A hat would be much harder to adjust than a belt. On top of that, how could I make the lion mane come around the chin like a real lion? I decided that a hood instead of a hat would take care of all of these issues. It worked on Peter, so hopefully it'll work on Julian too. :)
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the end results and excited to try it out.
HALLOWEEN IS GONNA BE SO MUCH FUN!!! <3
